I think that to some extent the so-called "culture wars" are the creation of media blowhards like Bill O'Reilly seeking to stir up trouble and thus enhance their show's ratings. A matter of the tail wagging the dog, so to speak.
There are, of course, differences of opinion on such matters as evolution and Christmas nativity scenes. But to call these differences of opinion "culture wars" is a gross overstatement.

Here's a discussion from Wikipedia on "Religious Wars":
http://en.wikipedia..../Religious_wars
It's not mentioned in that article, but the colonization of the Americas, and the expansion of the American frontier, was motivated in part by a desire for the dissemination of Christianity.
Again, I'm not saying that the dissemination of Christianity has necessarily been beneficial. But in the course of world history it has had a greater impact on human events than the dissemination of other philosophies has.

I was answering the question in terms of impact, good or bad, on human events.
Let's put it this way. The dissemination of Plato's philosophy has not resulted in any wars that I can think of. The dissemination of Christianity has resulted in a bunch of wars.

“In your opinion, what is the most significant contribution, insight, or discovery to science or philosophy?”
Science: Electricity. Try living without it for a week after a hurricane blows through your home town.
Philosophy: Christianity. (The question asked about the most SIGNIFICANT contribution, not the most BENEFICIAL contribution).
