JMRobinson's Activity

  1. JMRobinson added a post in a topic Free will, rehashed.

I wonder whether this argument is relevant:

If actions are causally determined, then free will cannot be the case.

If actions are not causally determined, then no one can be said to be their creator, and free will cannot be the case.

The paper linked on page 1 is maybe the strangest I've ever had the pleasure to browse.

Catholic doctrine regarding the teaching authority of the Church is scriptural deriving in part from Paul's letters to Timothy (1 Tim. 6:20 & 2 Tim. 1:14-16).

I wonder if such scripture exists for Muslims? Does the Kuran provide for a teaching authority, or do some Muslims interpret the Kuran as providing such?

    Blah, I meant "SHOULDN'T" sanction...

No, there's nothing clever about it. In fact, later in the same "essay":

Seems to me that these arguments are against sanctioning marriage in general, not one or the other type. And that is my position, too. The state should "sanction" personal relationships or reward certain types of them. I was raised by unmarried lesbians, and I turned out just fine (some would disagree =).

Those damn neocons are the root cause of all evil.

Are you saying that they altered or misinterpreted Bin Laden's Fatwah? Do you have any proof of this?

I can't help there, because I don't follow it either. But here's a different idea:

Therein you'll find many grievances of both types (that is, anti-imperialist and pro-totalitarian Ummah arguments). It's often difficult to extract the two as they often go hand-in-hand.

Considering I posted direct quotes considering a desire to religious totalitarianism, I would hardly call it a "hypothetical," Hugo.

And just to keep my trend of multiple additional posts, lol @ my grammar being exposed in the first word of my earlier post. There = Their, obviously.

Argh, I missed the end of your post (it was long). I hope I supplied my answer about "faith-based" being supplied in the grant recipient process itself.

    Cheers.

I noticed you didn't reply to many of my responses above. Any reason why not? Such reasons might help to bring some clarity as to where we disagree.
