American Avocets take a wrong turn

American Avocets, are a bird of the lakes and streams of the far west. When migration time occurs, they head South, to Winter in the Gulf, some turning South East and Winter in the Carolina's.

Very rarely are they seen in New York. In this case, I did run into a flock of fifty or so birds on the Brooklyn shore, who sadly enough depended on the leadership skills of "Phil." Phil hooked a left in Cincinnati, or some similar location and arrived in Brooklyn N.Y. I suspect that disgruntled members of the Flock, ousted him from his role as Flock Guide, but then again, this is guess work,,, :(
